We believe that in order for everyone to ‘be their best’ it is important to support staff in their career development.

Fortis Trust’s Employee Bursary Scheme provides staff members with the opportunity to apply, on a competitive basis, for funding to undertake a formal educational qualification/course of study. The scheme can be used towards the cost of a degree or professional body course or a course identified by your manager as being relevant to your job role.

The Staff Bursary Scheme is funded by Fortis Trust.  It is open to all directly employed Fortis Trust staff, including full-time and part-time staff with at least half-time appointments. Staff must have completed two years of continuous service to Fortis Trust by the first day of the academic session for which the bursary is awarded.

The scheme is available on an annual basis, with awards made subject to the volume of successful applications.  The aim of the Bursary is to provide an opportunity for employees committed to pursuing a formal educational qualification/course of study to apply on a competitive basis for funding support.  It enables Fortis Trust to give commitment through a structured process to career development programmes, which supports the Trust’s People Strategy.

What can be funded?

The bursary programme applies only to those courses and programmes related to gaining Qualified Teacher Status / Professional Certification relevant to your role or of benefit to your academy, provision or/and Fortis Trust.

How much support will be awarded?

The level of support available in any given year is governed by individual application scores, the number of applications received and the amount of funds available.

Please note that the maximum award is £2,000 per person for a full degree, £1,000 per person for a professional certificate course and up to £500 for courses and programmes of 1-3 terms duration. This may be subject to change depending on either, the quality or quantity of the applications received this academic year.

The Bursary Scheme is intended to provide support for courses of study. This does not include other development activities such as conferences or seminars.

The Scheme only provides support for course fees.  All examination/ assessment fees must be included within this.  The Scheme does not cover  additional fees such as:

  • Additional assessment or examination fees
  • Professional, accreditation or registration fees
  • Portfolio fees
  • Transaction fees

The Bursary Scheme does not provide reimbursement for:

  • textbooks or materials
  • travel and subsistence (e.g. meals, accommodations)

The bursary scheme will not be credited for charges for courses that are cancelled by the student.

Staff can find out more information about the bursary scheme through the application pack, which is available for all members of Fortis Trust staff.
