Equality Objectives

Fortis Trust is fully inclusive where everyone is welcome and encouraged to be the best they can be. We are committed to promoting equality and diversity for all our students, interns, parents and staff. We make sure that we consider equality and the possible implications for all and especially those with protected characteristics.

We expect all members of our community and everyone who enters our academies and provisions to behave in a way, which respects the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.

Fortis Trust aims to meet its obligations under the public sector equality duty by having due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

Fortis Trust will annually review how well we achieve these aims with regard to the protected groups under the Equality Act (2010) (race, disability, gender, gender re-assignment, age, pregnancy and maternity, marital status, religion and belief and sexual orientation). We aim to provide the best possible education for all, in line with the Fortis Framework for Excellent Practice. The ethos of our Trust and our provisions clearly reflects our commitment to a fully inclusive and respectful culture for all members of our communities.

Trust objectives for 2024 onwards:

Fortis Trust has five equality objectives to ensure quality provision across the whole Trust. All Trust academies and provisions will work in partnership to achieve these objectives. For the 2024-2028 period our objectives are:

Trust Objective 1

Undertake an analysis of recruitment data and trends in regard to race, disability or any gender pay gap by July each year, and report on this to the Finance, Workforce and Operations Committee.

Why we have chosen this objective:

To ensure transparency and accountability in the recruitment process. By analysing this data, the trust can identify any disparities or biases that may exist and take proactive steps to address them.

Trust Objective 2

Have in place a reasonable adjustment agreement for all staff with disabilities by September, to better meet their needs and ensure that any disadvantages experienced are addressed.

Why we have chosen this objective:

To create a more inclusive and supportive work environment. This agreement aims to better meet the needs of staff with disabilities and address any disadvantages they may face.

Trust Objective 3

To raise equality awareness with students and staff, ensuring tolerance and respect towards individuals who identify with any of the protected characteristics.

Why we have chosen this objective:

This objective was chosen to foster a culture of inclusivity and respect across the whole trust community and beyond into local communities. By increasing awareness and promoting tolerance, the trust aims to create a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Trust Objective 4

To monitor and promote the involvement of all groups of students and interns in extracurricular activities, including leadership opportunities

Why we have chosen this objective:

Trust Objective 4 was chosen to emphasize the importance of inclusivity and diversity within our trust. By monitoring and promoting the involvement of all groups of students and interns in extracurricular activities, including leadership opportunities, we aim to create a more inclusive and equitable environment where every individual feels valued and supported. This objective will help us foster a sense of belonging among our students and interns, promote cross-cultural understanding, and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth through leadership roles.

Trust Objective 5

To ensure the consistent recording, reporting and action by staff following incidents of discriminatory language and behaviour, including bullying.

Why we have chosen this objective:

We chose this objective to reinforce our commitment to creating a safe and respectful learning environment for all individuals within Fortis Trust. By ensuring the consistent recording, reporting, and action by staff following incidents of discriminatory language and behaviour, including bullying, we strive to address such issues promptly and effectively. This objective will help us uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of discrimination or bullying, promote a culture of respect and understanding, and provide support to those who have been affected by such incidents.
